Sunrise East continues the vision established by 459 Rock Apartments, expanding the development at the corner of Burnside and Stark Street in Gresham's Rockwood neighborhood.

The Full Vision

Designed by YBA Architects (Yale + Brown), the complete Sunrise Multifamily project encompasses 79 residential units across 106,865 square feet in a four-story Type VA structure with 95 parking stalls. The development primarily features two and three-bedroom units designed to serve families — addressing the critical need for quality, family-sized housing in the Rockwood market.

Central Plaza and Amenities

A central plaza at the Burnside-Stark intersection serves as the development's focal point, framing building amenities including community and fitness rooms. Children's play areas and resident courtyards throughout the site are designed to foster genuine connection among residents and families — creating not just a place to live, but a neighborhood within a neighborhood.

Sunrise-Inspired Design

The architectural design draws on a sunrise-inspired color palette that gives the project its name. Bright yellows adorn the facade at the plaza entrance, transitioning to warm reds at the outer ends of the building. This deliberate color progression emphasizes the site's energy distribution — concentrating activity and vibrancy at the central plaza and radiating outward through the residential wings.

Building on 459 Rock

With 459 Rock Apartments successfully completed and fully occupied since 2020, Sunrise East builds on the established foundation to deliver the full scope of the Sunrise Multifamily vision. The combined development will bring 123 family-oriented units to one of East Portland's most transit-connected corridors, steps from the Rockwood MAX light rail station.
